Johnson pleads not guilty to murder of gangland killer Carl Williams

Johnson pleads not guilty to murder of gangland killer Carl Williams: "man accused of murdering gangland killer Carl Williams in a high-security unit at Barwon Prison last April today pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Matthew Charles Johnson, 37, stood with his hands on the railing of the dock at the Geelong court as Magistrate Rosemary Carlin found there was enough evidence to support a conviction and ordered him to stand trial next year in the Supreme Court.
The court heard today that copies of statements Williams had made to police were found on a computer hard drive and in printed form in Johnson's cell after the killing.

Carl Williams. Earlier, Williams' heavily pregnant former wife Roberta told a court how she 'cut him short' in their last phone call on the day he was killed because she was getting ready for a photo shoot for New Idea magazine at the Melbourne Airport's Hilton Hotel.
Roberta Williams, who appeared via videolink at the Geelong Magistrates Court, said Williams had been upset that morning over a newspaper report."
