We’re not Compton or L.A,” he said, “but there is a significant gang presence in Eureka.”EPD identified a number of racial, prison and motorcycle gangs in the city, including 18th Street, Crazy White Boys and the Mongols (a biker gang).Although exact figures are hard to come by, Watson said that there is about 200 to 300 gang members and associates (those who help gangs) in the city limits who contribute to about 50 percent of crimes against persons.
This includes a fatal shooting off West Del Norte Street where an 18th Street gang member is a prime suspect and an assault at the Bayshore Mall, a popular location for gang members, Watson said.
