gangland-style hit took place between 6 and 6:30 p.m. in the 15400-block of Westminster Highway, on a barren stretch between No. 6 and 7 roads.

It appears the victims attempted to drive themselves to hospital before abandoning their white, bullet-riddled BMW at Westminster Highway and No. 3 Road, one of Richmond's busiest commercial intersections.

Four bullet holes were visible in the driver's side door and in the door behind the driver.

Richmond RCMP took the victims to Richmond Hospital, prompting heightened security, said Vancouver Coastal Health spokesman James Nesbitt. One of the victims is seriously injured, he added.

Police cordoned off Westminster Highway between No. 6 and 7 roads for the remainder of the night as they searched for evidence.

Public access to Richmond Hospital was blocked immediately after the incident but was quickly restored. An increased police presence was expected for the rest of the night, Nesbitt said.

The shootings follow several others in Metro Vancouver recently, including Saturday's slaying of longtime Vancouver gangster Gurmit Singh Dhak in a parking lot of Burnaby's Metrotown mall.
